Wouldn't it be handy to have all your friends and colleagues in your Jabber contact list without having to add each one manually? Cisco Jabber for Windows makes it easy. Here’s how.

First, create your contact list definitions file. This is just a file that lists all of your contacts in XML. It’s easy to recreate. Here’s an example of an empty file:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>  <buddylist> <group> <gname>Group Name</gname>  <user> <uname>IM Address</uname>  <fname>Display Name</fname> </user> </group> </buddylist>
Now here’s one that’s been populated:

You’ll see that the group name (or gname) here is CiscoJabber. Each user is listed below that. This example has four contacts. You can add as many as you want. Once you have your XML file ready, it’s time to begin importing.

  1. Launch Cisco Jabber, click the Gear icon, and select File > Import contacts.

  2. Browse to the location of the contact list definition file. Choose the Contact list file and click Open.

    The contact list is imported and results are displayed in the Import Contacts Result window.

  3. Click OK to close the message.

And that’s it! You’ve successfully imported your contacts.
