What's New in WebEx (WBS32)

WBS32.5

Cisco WebEx Meeting Center

MP4 Recordings Available for all Meeting Center Sites

Administrators can now request to turn on MP4 recordings for their Meeting Center sites. Previously, MP4 recordings were only available for sites that allowed users to attend meetings using Meeting Center Video Conferencing.

This feature is disabled by default. Site administrators must make a request to enable this feature.

Notes:

  •

MP4 recordings are larger in size than ARF recording format. Enabling this option increases the storage requirements for recordings.

  •

Linux users cannot start or join a non-WebEx Video Conferencing meeting that has enabled MP4 playback. They receive a warning message indicating their operating system is not supported for this meeting, because Linux only supports ARF recording format.

Meetings Started from Video Systems and Phones in Personal Rooms Automatically Locked Based on Security Settings (Notice Only)

We are providing up front notification of a significant change in behavior that will be enabled in October 2017. Please update your users of this change ahead of time to prevent disruption in your meetings.

Previously, if Automatic lock was enabled in Personal Room settings, meetings would not be automatically locked if hosts started the meeting from video systems or phones.

Now, meetings will be automatically locked, even if the host starts the meeting from a video system or a phone. This results in a better security posture for your meetings.

Note

When auto-lock is set to 0 minutes after meeting start, as a host on a video system or a phone, you will not be able to admit anyone into the meeting, since no meetings controls are available.

In addition, attendees on video systems and phones waiting in the lobby will be dropped as soon as the host starts the meeting. This will be addressed in a future release.

Cisco WebEx Event Center

Switch to Classic Screen Sharing Mode in Microsoft Windows 10

By default, WebEx Event Center uses advanced screen sharing in Microsoft Windows 10 to prevent crosshatch-patterned windows appearing for others where meeting panels are open on your screen. However, if you are experiencing problems, or if your computer does not support advanced screen sharing, you can now switch to classic screen sharing.

From the Event menu, tap Options > Content Sharing > "Revert to classic screen sharing"

This feature is meant to bring functional parity to WebEx Meeting Center, which had this menu option added in WBS32.3.

All Cisco WebEx Centers

End of Life for WebEx Universal Toolkit and the Cisco WebEx Player for .wot Files

As we announced previously, in all versions of WebEx we are removing the following items located on the Support > Downloads pages of your WebEx site:

  •

WebEx Universal Toolkit – The WebEx Universal Toolkit provides a plugin for Microsoft PowerPoint, which is best suited for environments with Office 2007 or earlier, and Cisco WebEx releases WBS29 and earlier. With the retirement of WBS29 and Office 2007, this toolkit has reached end of life as well.

  •

Cisco WebEx Player for .wot files -- Recording Player for recording files with .wot extension – Cisco WebEx stopped producing recording files with .wot extensions many years ago. This recording player was made available for backward compatibility.

Cisco WebEx App Available for Slack

Cisco WebEx is now available for Slack. You can add this app in a Slack channel and quickly share a Cisco WebEx meeting or Personal Room URL with your team.

Visit https://help.webex.com/docs/DOC-21096 to learn more and install the app on your Slack.

Note

Cisco WebEx for Slack will soon be published in the Slack app directory.

WebEx Site Administration

Change Log Export

The WebEx Site Administration settings change log can be exported in CSV format. Administrators can export the report by clicking Reports > Common > Site Config Audit Log.

In this version, the change log tracks most of the changes made in Configuration > Common Site Settings > Options. Note that some options and settings on this page are not tracked. A partial list of tracked site options is as follows:

  •

    Account Management Settings

  •

    Mobile Support

  •

    Cloud Collaboration Meeting Room Options

  •

    Schedule Meeting Options

  •

    Default Scheduler Options

  •

    Security Options

This audit log is available to non-CI sites in this release. Displaying the audit log for CI-enabled sites in Spark Control Hub WebEx administration is planned in an upcoming release.

Cisco WebEx Productivity Tools

Update Scheduled Meetings after Cisco WebEx Site is Renamed

Previously, if a site’s name changed, for example, after an upgrade or a change to the site URL, meetings that were scheduled with the old name could only be edited when the user signed in with the old site URL.

Now, Productivity Tools tracks the relationship between the old and new site names, and users can edit and update meetings after signing in to the new site.

Cisco WebEx Web App 3.0

Event Center Attendee Support for WBS32.5 and later

Introducing join support for Event Center attendees!

Customers who currently have the WebEx Web App enabled on their WBS32 site now see the “Join by browser” link on Event Center join pages as well.

Note

This feature is available only for WBS32.5 and later.

With the Cisco WebEx web app, you can join WebEx meetings—and now events—fast, without installing anything (no plug-ins) on your computer. Like Meeting Center, this version is currently for attendees only. (Hosts must continue to use the desktop app.) For more information on the WebEx web app, check out the article on Help Central: https://help.webex.com/docs/DOC-2486.

Don’t have the WebEx web app enabled on your site? The Cisco WebEx Web App is currently available by request only. Contact your Customer Success Manager (CSM) to get the Web App enabled on your site.

Participant video and participant names are now visible in Android when they come from Telepresence systems within the same WebEx Meeting Center Video Conferencing-enabled meeting. Also, other participants can now see the Android user’s video and name.

This aligns with video multi stream functionality introduced in a previous version of WebEx Meeting Center.

Limited Chromebook Support WebEx Meetings for Android can now join and start Meeting Center meetings, Event Center events, and Training Center sessions on supported Chromebooks.

Some limitations apply:

  •

Cannot send video if the camera is occupied by another app in the Chromebook

  •

Shortcuts in Chromebook are not active

  •

Does not support cross launching from browser

  •

  •

    Does not support sharing

Password Recovery from the App

You can now recover your password directly from the Meetings app for non-secure-sign-on (SSO) sites.

Support for Other Telephony and Legacy VoIP

Previously, for TSP non-hybrid sites, Android audio preferences only supported no Telephony with integrated VoIP. Now, Android audio preferences allow support for Telephony or other Telephony with integrated VoIP.

Cisco WebEx Meetings 9.14 for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch

Touch ID Sign-in Support

With this release, the Meetings app now supports iOS Touch ID sign in for non-SSO sites.

With this release, the Meetings app now supports the sixth-generation iPod Touch.

Notifications After a Daylight Savings Time (DST) Change

If a Daylight Savings Time (DST) change occurs, but users have not opened their Meetings app, meeting notifications will still keep the original time string. Now, iOS users will receive a notification to refresh their meetings notification list when a DST change occurs so that notifications are adjusted to the new time.

WBS32.4

Cisco WebEx Meeting Center

Speaker Video in MP4 Recordings

MP4 recordings can now also include the speaker’s video. When MP4 recordings of a meeting that use WebEx Meeting Center Video are downloaded and played, or played on a mobile device, the speaker’s video is now included.

Note

This option is disabled by default, as the additional information stored with recordings results in increased storage requirements for recordings. This option can be enabled by your site administrator.

Schedule a Cisco WebEx Personal Room Meeting with your Google Calendar

With Cisco Calendar Service, you can schedule WebEx Personal Room meetings using @webex in Google Calendar. This integration makes it easy to schedule and join your WebEx meetings by auto-populating calendar invites with the meeting information. No plugins are required.

Note

Google Calendar requires the Cisco Calendar Service and WBS31.12 or later.

Meetings in Personal Rooms Automatically Locked Based on Security Settings when Started from Video Systems and Phones (Notice Only)

Please note, if you setup auto-lock to 0 minutes after meeting start, as a host on a video systems or a phone, you will not be able to admit anyone into the meeting, since no meetings controls are available. This will be addressed in a future release.

Increased Meeting Durations

The meeting web page scheduler now allows meetings to be scheduled for up to 24 hours in duration.

Audio Noise Detection

Users can now experience less meeting noise. When connected to audio using the Call Using Computer, WebEx Meeting Center now automatically warns users and prompts them to mute when there is active background noise such as knocking, typing, sirens, or barking dogs.

The noise detection functionality can distinguish between users who are actively speaking and background noises. The user also has the option to disable the noise detection if they choose.

Streamlined Username and Password Recovery Workflow

The workflow was improved for recovering sign-in and password information. Users who have forgotten their username and/or their password are now directed to a separate page which guides them through the process of recovering their information.

Cisco WebEx Meeting Center and Event Center (Windows)

Higher Display Resolution Optimization for File Sharing Dialogues and the Application Share Indicator

In Cisco WebEx Meeting Center and Event Center for Windows, the file sharing dialogues and the application share indicator are now optimized for high-resolution monitors. This improvement is part of our continuing effort to provide better support in Meeting Center and Event Center for higher display resolutions, such as 3K or even higher, which started in WBS31.8.

Support for higher display resolutions is limited to Windows 7 or later.

Cisco WebEx Meeting Center, Event Center, and Training Center

Movable Annotations in Windows

Windows users can now move annotations to different positions on the screen in WebEx Meeting Center, Event Center, and Training Center. Simply hover over an existing annotation and click to drag it to a new location. Attendees can move their own annotations only, and hosts can move annotations created by anyone.

All Cisco WebEx Centers

Cisco Webex now supports Polish language audio prompts for WebEx audio customers.

Productivity Tools

Improved Personal Room Performance

The performance has been improved when scheduling and updating Personal Room meeting. Actions that took 5 or more seconds to complete now take 1 second.

In addition, meeting information is pre-populated before the meeting request is sent.

Note

When a Personal Room URL is changed either from Site Administration or from host preferences, the host must sign in to Productivity Tools again, or manually refresh in Productivity Tools preferences for it to synchronize.

Cisco WebEx Meetings for Android 9.13

Flip and Display Device Camera in Full Screen

You can now flip your device camera and bring it to full screen mode in any WebEx scenario. This improves the usability for attendees wearing smart glasses, or who want to show remote participants their physical surroundings, such as whiteboards or documents.

WBS32.3

Cisco WebEx Meeting Center

Optimized Audio and Video Join Workflow

Connecting to audio and video when joining a meeting is now easier than ever. The audio and video menus have been combined into a single workflow, allowing you to connect to audio and video in a single click. Your previous settings are remembered between meetings.

Phone Numbers Stored in Account Preferences

Hosts who visit their WebEx site for the first time are presented with a pop up encouraging them to store their “Call Me” number in account preferences.

Headset Mute Integration

No more "double mute"! When connected to audio using Call Using Computer, now, when you mute or unmute from your headset, it will also mute or unmute you in the WebEx meeting. This works in reverse, too: when you mute or unmute from the meeting window, it will also mute or unmute your headset.

Most third-party headsets are supported, though support may be limited to certain models.

Share Multimedia from the Multimedia View Panel

When the Multimedia Viewer panel is open but no multimedia is being shared, an option "Share multimedia" appears so hosts can easily share multimedia with other meeting participants.

Switch to Classic Screen Sharing Mode in Microsoft Windows 10

By default, WebEx Meeting Center uses advanced screen sharing in Microsoft Windows 10 to prevent crosshatch-patterned windows appearing for others where meeting panels are open on your screen. However, if you are experiencing problems, or if your computer does not support advanced screen sharing, you can now switch to classic screen sharing.

Select Meeting Options > Content Sharing > "Revert to classic screen sharing"

Unified Participant List across WebEx, Spark and Video Systems

This feature only applies to MC-25 based sites, and only when those sites have turned on Cisco WebEx Meeting Center Video (formerly CMR Cloud).

Users joining meetings using Spark applications and Spark devices (such as the Spark Room System or Spark Board) are now able to see the full meeting participant list, including users joining from WebEx applications and telephones.

Previously, users on Spark applications and devices could only see other Spark users and video systems in their people list.

Cisco WebEx Meeting Center and Event Center (Windows)

Higher Display Resolution Optimization for Application Sharing Dialogues

In Cisco WebEx Meeting Center and Event Center for Windows, the application sharing dialogues are now optimized for high-resolution monitors. Support for higher display resolutions is limited to Windows 7 or later.

High Contrast Support

Cisco WebEx Meeting Center and Event Center now support high contrast themes in Windows 7 and later for core areas of the product experience. Like optimization for higher resolution displays, support for high contrast themes is part of a continuous delivery, with new functional areas being added in each release.

Single-Click Join for Microsoft Lync Users

Updated August, 2017:

A new email variable performs the same functionality automatically:

  •

The email template "Invitation to a Meeting in Progress_PR(Productivity Tools)" with parameter: (%LyncURI%)

  •

The email template: "MC MeetingInfo For Attendee(Productivity Tools)” with parameter: (%LyncURI%)

A new parameter was added to Site Administration to allow easy construction of a join link for Microsoft Lync users. Email invitations for meetings using WebEx Meeting Center video scheduled in Cisco WebEx Productivity Tools can now contain a link that launches a WebEx meeting or Personal Room for Lync users.

The site administrator can manually configure the parameter LyncURI to insert a Lync join SIP URL to these email templates:
