Use this checklist with the Session Planning Worksheet (Training Center: Session Planning Worksheet) to ensure that you complete the preparations, and in-session and post-session tasks, that will help make your training a success.

Before the Training Session Date


Schedule and organize the session


Set registration requirements, if desired.
Send session invitations, and save responses.
Assign attendees roles and responsibilities.
Set attendee privileges and options.
Prepare training materials you plan to use during the session.



Set up your workspace


Test your headset and microphone to make sure they work properly.
If possible, have a second computer available as a backup, and to log in as an attendee
Make sure all applications you plan to use are working correctly.
Have a "Training in Progress" sign available.



Review, test, and practice with your training materials


Carefully review material you plan to use during the session.
Start a practice meeting and test content you plan to use.
If you are using a poll, make sure it displays correctly in the polling panel.
If you are using tests, make sure they launch successfully.

The Day of the Session


Before the session starts


Minimize sources of background noise.
Let the people around you know you will be in a training session.
Display a "Training in Progress" sign.
Make sure you have attendees' contact information available.
Check the position of your webcam and make sure it's working properly.
Have the Host Key and session number available.
Start your session a few minutes early.
If possible, join the session as an attendee on a second computer.
Open the training materials you plan to use, including applications, and have them ready.
If you are using a PowerPoint presentation, open the PowerPoint Notes panel.
Review attendee privileges and session options.
Close applications you will not need during the meeting.



Start the session


Greet attendees as they join.
Send reminders to attendees who do not join on time.
Start the session recording.
Review the session's objectives and guidelines.
Verify that attendees can see what you want them to see.



Conduct the session


Paste instructions or information into chat for late arrivals.
Use Chat, and the Annotation and Feedback tools, to solicit input and feedback.
Check the Chat and Q&A panels regularly for comments and questions.
Keep track of time so the session stays on schedule.



End the session


Begin the wrap-up before the scheduled session-end time.
Review lesson objectives.
Clearly communicate homework assignments and deadlines.
Give instructions for submitting homework assignments.
Ask for questions, and answer them.
Use the File Sharing feature to make how-to guides and other training materials available.
Remind attendees to complete and submit course evaluations.



After the session


Make session materials available to those who were unable to attend the session.
Grade tests and distribute results to attendees.
Publish and share the session recording.
Review session evaluations.
