If Carbon aware mode is turned on and 50% or more of the user's electricity comes from fossil fuel/high-carbon sources, non-critical software updates are deferred for up to 24 hours, and video resolution is reduced from 720p to 360p.

Turn Carbon aware mode on or off

Sign in to Control Hub.

Select Organization Settings > Carbon Aware Mode.

Choose an option for what users see when they sign in to Webex App and select Settings:

  • Opt in to the carbon aware video or opt-out of related updates— Off by default. Users can check the box in Webex App to turn it on.

    Optimize energy use under Carbon aware mode, which postpones software updates for up to a day (but allows urgent updates), when low-carbon energy isn't available, is on by default. Users can uncheck the box in Webex App to turn this off.

  • Opt in to related updates or videoOptimize energy use and Optimize video in meetings and one-to-one calls under Carbon aware mode are off by default. Users check the boxes in Webex App to turn on the options they want.

  • Opt out of related updates or videoOptimize energy use and Optimize video in meetings and one-to-one calls under Carbon aware mode are on by default. Users can uncheck the boxes in Webex App to turn them off.

  • Feature unavailable—Carbon aware mode is not shown to users in Webex App.
