Video thumbnails view shows the active speaker in the main part of the screen when no one is sharing content. Video thumbnails of up to 5 participants show at the top of the screen. When someone starts sharing content, the content shows in the main part of the screen.

Active speaker view shows video of the active speaker in the main part of the screen when no one is sharing content. When someone starts sharing content, the content shows in the main part of the screen. A large thumbnail of the active speaker shows in the upper right corner.


Video thumbnails of the participants aren't recorded in active speaker view. Their video won't show when the recording is played, even if their video showed during the meeting or event.

Content-only view shows shared content only in the main part of the screen. When no one is sharing content, the screen is black.

Before you begin

This feature is available for video-centric network-based MP4 recordings that are recorded in the cloud in WBS39.5 and later sites. To find out which version you’re using, see Find Your Cisco Webex Meetings Version Number. This feature isn't available for meetings and events that are recorded locally on the host's computer.

This setting determines the screen layout that's captured for new recordings. This setting doesn't apply to old recordings.

Sign in to your Webex site.

In Modern View, select Preferences from the left navigation bar, and then select the Recording tab.

Select one of the Recording view options.
