Create the client ID

Sign into Canvas as an administrator. Select the Admin tab and then select the name of the account.

Select Developer Keys > + Developer Key > + LTI Key and enter the following information in the fields on the left side of the page:

  • Key name—Enter any name

    This name will be shown on the Developer Keys page in Canvas.

  • (Optional) Owner email—Enter an email address

  • Redirect URIs—Enter https://lti.webex.com/lti/launch

On the same page, enter the following information under the Configure heading:

  • Method—Choose Manual Entry.

  • Title—Enter a title.

    This title is what students and teachers click to launch Webex LTI in their courses.

  • Description—Enter any description

  • Target Link URI—Enter https://lti.webex.com/lti/launch

  • OpenID Connect Initiation Url—Enter https://lti.webex.com/lti/login

  • JWK Method—Choose Public JWK URL

  • Public JWK URL—Enter https://lti.webex.com/.sec-keys/jwks.json

Open the LTI Advantage Services dropdown and enable the following services:

  • Can retrieve user data associated with the context the tool is installed in

  • Can update public jwk for LTI services

  • Can lookup Account information

Open the Additional Settings dropdown, go to the Privacy Level heading, and click Public.

Go to the Placements field, remove the default selections, and add Course Navigation.

Click Save. Copy the Client ID for your newly created developer key, as you'll need it twice later.

The Client ID is the value above the Show Key button in the Details column.

In the State section of the new developer key, select ON.

Generate the deployment ID

In Canvas, select the Admin tab and then select the name of the account.

Go to Settings > Apps > +App

Enter the following information:

  • Configuration Type—Select By Client ID.

  • Client ID—Enter the Client ID that you copied in Step 7 of Create the client ID.

Click Submit.

Verify that the app name is the same as the title you entered in Step 3 of Create the client ID and click Install.

Click the Settings dropdown next to your app name, select Deployment ID, and copy this value to use later.

Create a new Webex LTI registration and configure site-wide settings

Create a brand-new Webex LTI registration to install in Canvas using LTI 1.3.

In Control Hub, go to Organization Settings > Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI), click LTI Registration Hub, and sign in with Webex.

Click +Webex LTI registration.

Enter the following information:

  • Webex site—Choose the Webex site you want this registration to be associated with.

    This Webex site is used when creating content in all features of Webex LTI, such as scheduling meetings or importing recordings.

  • LMS—Select Canvas.

  • LMS URL—Enter your LMS URL, including the https://.

    • For example, https://canvas.myschool.edu.

  • Client ID—Enter the Client ID that you copied in Step 7 of Create the client ID.

  • Deployment ID—Enter the Deployment ID that you copied in Step 6 of Generate the deployment ID.

  • LMS time zone—Select the time zone for your LMS site.

Click Next.

You see the registration information for this registration.

What to do next

Enable the features you want to be available site-wide for your teachers to configure in their courses and click Close.

To start using Webex LTI in a course, go to Launch Webex LTI and manage course settings.

Create a linked Webex LTI registration and configure site-wide settings

Create a Webex LTI registration that is linked to an existing Webex LTI Legacy registration. The linked Webex LTI registration inherits all the data and settings from its linked Webex LTI Legacy registration. This allows your students and teachers to transition from Webex LTI Legacy to Webex LTI without having to recreate all their meetings, recordings, and more.

In Control Hub, go to Organization Settings > Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI), click LTI Registration Hub, and sign in with Webex.

In the list of registrations, find the Webex LTI Legacy you want to link, and click +Linked registration.

Some of the information is prepopulated from your existing Webex LTI Legacy registration and cannot be modified. Enter the following additional information:

  • Client ID—Enter the client ID that you copied in Step 7 of Create the client ID.

  • Deployment ID—Enter the Deployment ID that you copied in Step 6 of Generate the deployment ID.

Click Next.

You see the registration information for the newly created Webex LTI registration, and details about the linked Webex LTI Legacy registration.

What to do next

Enable the features that you want to be available site-wide for your teachers to configure in their courses and click Close.

By default, the settings that are enabled in the registration are the ones that were enabled in the linked Webex LTI Legacy registration.

When registrations are linked, the Webex LTI Legacy registration becomes read-only, and any changes to the Webex LTI registration settings will also apply to the Webex LTI Legacy registration.

Launch Webex LTI and manage course settings

In the Course Navigation menu of any course, find the name of the tool that you entered in Step 3 of Create the client ID.

Click the name of the tool to launch Webex LTI in your course and customize feature preferences for the course from the Setup tab.
