Cisco Spark SIP Addresses

The Cisco Spark SIP address is used for all call routing in Cisco Spark services, such as Hybrid Call Service Connect and Cisco Spark Call.

After you set a subdomain for your organization, the SIP addresses are assigned to the users and places in your organization. The SIP addresses can be used to receive calls from any standards-based SIP calling service.

Subdomain Value

Here are some guidelines to follow:

  • The value must be unique and is usually the name of your company.

  • You can enter a combination of letters and numbers for the subdomain (up to 63 characters).

You can enter any value that you want, but enter a value that is easily recognized as belonging to your organization. Follow the guidelines in the management portal and choose a subdomain that identifies your organization.

Cisco Spark SIP addresses are automatically formatted as username@example.call.ciscospark.com or placename@example.room.ciscospark.com:

  • username is the user account in Cisco Spark.

  • placename is a custom name that you assign to the place containing a shared device, such as a meeting room or shared space name. For example, Tangram Boardroom or Reception.

  • example is the value that you enter. It denotes the subdomain for your organization.

Subdomain Errors and Solutions

  • Invalid subdomain name—You are using unsupported characters. Enter a value with letters and numbers only.

  • Not available. Please try another name—Domain is already in use; try another value and run the check to see if it is available.

Cisco Spark SIP Addresses and Users

When users call through a directory search, the Cisco Spark SIP addresses are used to route from Cisco Spark Call phones and deliver calls to a user's phone and Cisco Spark app simultaneously.

For Hybrid Call Service Connect, the SIP address routes calls that are incoming to the cloud to a specific user (username in the example). For that user's outgoing calls, the Cisco Spark SIP address is used as the caller ID.
  • From the caller's perspective, dialing the corporate directory URI or SIP URI results in a call that rings both the Cisco Spark app and the on-premises phone.

  • In certain call scenarios, the Cisco Spark SIP address appears as the caller ID on an on-premises phone, and also in the call history. Users can call back to the SIP address, in these cases.

  • Companies can choose to use the SIP address as a routing address. We recommend this choice if you use Hybrid Call Service Connect and you publish your users' directory URIs publicly as their contactable SIP addresses.

Cisco Spark SIP Addresses and Places

The Cisco Spark SIP address enables business-to-business calling and WebEx URI callback. Cisco Spark places are assigned a Cisco Spark SIP address in the form placename@example.room.ciscospark.com

For Hybrid Call Service Connect, you assign a room device as a place in the management portal. Using Hybrid Call Service Connect for the room device place means that the room device routes its calls through Cisco Unified Communication Manager and calls on-premises devices directly. The room device uses the existing PSTN infrastructure.
