Where to begin

ベスト プラクティス:

The first step for a successful migration from Webex LTI Legacy to Webex LTI is to create a new, unliked Webex LTI registration.

Creating a new, unliked Webex LTI registration allows you to:

  • Get familiar with the Webex LTI installation steps.

  • Explore the features of Registration Hub, including creating a registration and managing site-wide settings.

  • Understand the differences between Webex LTI and Webex LTI Legacy.

Articles to read

Next, we recommend that you create a linked Webex LTI registration.

A linked Webex LTI registration inherits all the data and settings from its linked Webex LTI Legacy registration that it's linked to. Creating a linked registration allows your students and teachers to transition from Webex LTI Legacy to Webex LTI without having to recreate all their meetings, recordings, and more.

Some points to keep in mind when creating a linked Webex LTI registration:

  • Some LMSs, like Blackboard and D2L, only allow one enabled LTI 1.3 tool at a time. In these LMSs, if you had created an unlinked Webex LTI tool, disable it in your LMS before you can create the linked registration. This is noted in the installation steps where necessary.

  • You can only link a Webex LTI registration with a Webex LTI Legacy registration at the time you create the Webex LTI registration. After you create an unlinked Webex LTI registration, you can't go back and link it.

  • Linked registrations must have the same Webex site, LMS, and LMS URL. Registration Hub populates this information when you are creating the linked Webex LTI registration.

  • Each Webex LTI Legacy registration can only be linked to one Webex LTI registration.

  • When linked, the Webex LTI Legacy registration becomes read-only, and the settings become shared. Any setting changes you make to the Webex LTI registration are changed in the linked Webex LTI Legacy registration as well.

After you create a linked Webex LTI registration, get comfortable with how linked registrations work. We suggest taking these steps:

  • Create a brand-new course in your LMS and add both the Webex LTI and Webex LTI Legacy tools.

  • Open this course in two separate browsers.

    • Make sure you open two separate browsers, not just two windows of the same browser.
  • Launch Webex LTI Legacy in the course in one browser and launch Webex LTI in the same course in the other browser.

  • Create a meeting in the Webex LTI Legacy tool and notice that it gets created in the Webex LTI tool as well.

  • Toggle on Other recordings from the Setup tab in the Webex LTI tool, and notice that Other recordings gets toggled on in the Webex LTI Legacy tool as well.

Since the linked registrations share data and settings, the changes you make in one are reflected in the other.

If you open the linked Webex LTI tool in a course that is already using Webex LTI Legacy, you see that all the data and content from the Webex LTI Legacy tool are visible in the Webex LTI tool.

While the student and teacher experience isn't different between Webex LTI and Webex LTI Legacy, there are still some things that you might want to communicate to anyone who uses Webex LTI.

  • If teachers are responsible for adding the Webex LTI tool to their courses, let them know when they should add the new tool.

  • If you chose a name for the new Webex LTI tool that is different than the name of the Webex LTI Legacy tool, tell students and teachers the new name so they know where to click to launch the tool.

After you have a linked Webex LTI registration, you don’t need the original Webex LTI Legacy registration in your LMS.

We recommend that you remove or disable the Webex LTI Legacy tool so teachers don't accidentally add it to their classes and students don’t accidentally launch it.

Removing the Webex LTI Legacy tool in your LMS will not impact the registration in Registration Hub. The registration and all associated details will still be accessible in Registration Hub if you ever want to re-enable the tool in your LMS.
