Bots in Webex App

Bots can help to extend the functionality of Webex App to include a third-party app. You can add bots to Webex App spaces and interact directly with the third-party app from the space. When you've added the bot to the space you can send a help message to the bot and the response includes the commands that the bot supports.

You can add a bot to any type of space; add a bot to your project space with other people and interact directly with the third-party app from your space. Or you can create a space with just you and the bot to interact with the third-party app.

The Webex App Hub contains a catalog of bots and apps developed by Cisco and third-party developers.

Add the GitLab bot

You must first add the GitLab bot to a new or existing space in Webex App and then link the bot to your GitLab account. Before setting up notifications for your GitLab account, you must add the GitLab bot to a space and link your account. You can add the GitLab bot to a group space, or you can create a direct space for the GitLab bot.

1

To add the GitLab bot to a group space, go to Messaging and choose the space that you want to use for GitLab notifications.

If you want to create a direct space for the GitLab bot, enter Gitlab.bot@webex.bot in the Search bar.

2

Choose People, click Add People , and enter the GitLab bot name: Gitlab.bot@webex.bot.

The bot creates a direct space with a welcome message.

If you want more information, you can ask the bot for help:

  • In a group space that contains the bot, enter @Gitlab help and send.
  • In a direct space with the bot, enter help and send.
The bot sends a message with a list of supported commands.

Manage GitLab notifications

After linking your account, you can choose some quick notifications or launch the GitLab dashboard from Webex App.

1

Manage notifications from a group space or from a direct space with the GitLab bot:

  • If the GitLab bot is in a group space, enter @Gitlab help and send the message.

  • If the GitLab bot is in a direct space, enter help and send the message.

The GitLab bot sends a message with a Manage Notifications link.
2

Click the Manage Notifications link to open the list of notifications.
