Prevent search from returning sensitive users and devices
Your organization has user accounts and devices that shouldn’t appear in most search results. You can now manage users and workspaces in Control Hub to prevent them from appearing in most searches.
With the Hide from search feature, you can hide accounts that you don’t want to get unsolicited messages and calls. You can individually set users to not appear in search results for most people. You can hide devices either by registering them to:
- A hidden workspace
- A hidden user
When a normal user searches for a hidden account or workspace by display name or location, Webex doesn’t return search results for it. The search does return hidden accounts and workspaces to the following users:
- Your Webex organization administrators
- Users who also have hidden accounts
Hide a user account
1 |
In Control Hub, go to Users and select the user. |
2 |
In the Security settings, enable Hide from search. |
3 |
Save your changes. Hiding the user also hides any device that’s personally
registered to the user. |
Hide a workspace
You can’t directly hide a device. You can hide the workspace to which you registered the device.
1 |
In Control Hub, go to Workspaces and create a new workspace or select and existing one. You can’t hide a workspace when you create it. |
2 |
Edit the workspace. |
3 |
Enable Hide from search. |

Save your changes. The workspace’s details page now displays “Hidden from search”.

Limitations
- Hide from search blocks searches for a user’s display name or a device’s location. Users who know the complete email address or device address can still connect with those.
- If a user searches from a Cisco device with software predating RoomOS 10, their device bypasses the new search features and can return hidden accounts. These devices include the DX, SX, and MX Series.
- If a hidden device has enabled Cisco Proximity, any other nearby device using Cisco Proximity can detect and connect to the hidden device.
- Hide from search works for CI-integrated Webex organizations. It doesn’t support CI-linked organizations.
