Customize the participant labels that display in Webex meetings
Allow users to easily identify meeting participants who belong to their organization, who belong to an external organization, and whose identity cannot be verified.
Participants in a Webex meeting can quickly see who's joined the meeting, regardless of whether they've joined from Webex App, a web browser, or a video device. The participants and video panels provide users with information about the identity of other participants in the meeting.
The identity of a meeting participant is categorized as Internal, External, or Unverified.
The Webex Meetings lobby also uses the Internal, External, and Unverified categories to inform the meeting host about the verification status of each user before admitting them into the meeting.
Internal
Internal participants are Webex users who are a part of your organization and have signed in or authenticated to verify their identity with the Webex service. By default, meeting participants don't see the domain of internal users in the meeting's Participants panel; as an administrator, you can choose to display the domain name of internal users in your meetings.
External
External participants are Webex users who belong to an organization other than yours. They have signed in or authenticated to verify their identity with the Webex service. By default, meeting participants can see the domain of external users in the meeting's Participants panel and easily identify which organization they are from. As an administrator, you can choose not to display the domain name of external users in your meetings.
Unverified
Unverified participants haven't signed in or authenticated to verify their identity with the Webex service. An unverified participant may enter any name when joining the Webex meeting. This name is displayed in the Participants panel, but Webex cannot verify this participant’s identity. Care and consideration should be taken with people who join, or want to join, meetings as unverified users. We strongly recommend meeting hosts take steps to verify that an unverified participant is who they say they are.
For example, as the meeting host, you can move unverified participants to a breakout and verify their identity aurally and visually before admitting them to the main meeting room. We recommend that users are signed in or authenticated, providing better meeting security. If a participant doesn’t have a Webex account, they can create a free account on webex.com to become a verified Webex user.
By default, users who have not signed in to authenticate their identity have Unverified shown below their name in the meeting's Participants panel. As an administrator, you can choose to not to display the Unverified label for these users in meetings.
