Get Started With Cisco Webex Room USB

Cisco Webex Room USB is a smart video conferencing solution for huddle spaces, and is compatible with any collaboration vendor.

Introducing Cisco Webex Room USB

The Cisco Webex Room USB is controlled with a remote control or direcly through your software client. It provides a great video and audio experience in meetings, with features such as automatic noise cancellation and best overview. You can also share presentation locally by connecting your Room USB to your laptop with an HDMI cable.

Make A Call

Connect your computer to the USB-C socket of the Room USB with the USB cable. The Room USB supports HD1080p video.

From your computer, open your calling client settings. In the video and audio parameters, make sure to select the Room USB.

If you want to extend the configuration to include an external monitor with this setup, connect your computer to the monitor in your usual way.

When placing calls using a third-party client, the camera, microphone, and loudspeakers are selected based on the OS or app defaults. You can override these settings.

The camera light indicator is lit whenever the camera is active in order to maintain privacy.

The third-party client controls all other functionality.

Share Content With The HDMI Cable

The Room USB offers 4K local content sharing. Simply connect your computer to the Room USB using the HDMI cable.

Note that sharing is only available outside a call. In order to share during a call, you need to use your calling client.

Wireless Guest Share

You can use Guest share to wirelessly share from your browser to a Cisco Webex Room USB.

Guest share from devices.webex.com allows you to share content wirelessly to any Webex registered room device. You don’t need to download a Webex app or sign-up to a Webex account so it is a great way to collaborate with your colleagues.

As you use Guest share, note the following:

  • Sharing works when the device is idle. When the device is in a call or someone else is sharing, you can’t start a share.

  • Audio plays through your laptop but not through the display screen.

  • Video streams at 1080p at 10 frames per second or 720p at 30 frames per second. Select Optimize for motion and video to ensure the best possible experience.

  • Guest share works on the latest versions of Firefox and Chrome on Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.

  • Closing the browser or the tab where devices.webex.com is open stops the share.

1

You can find the guest share code on the home screen.

2

Go to devices.webex.com and enter the 9-digit guest share code and click Next. Then enter the 4-digit share PIN and click Connect.

The share PIN appears on your device's screen.

3

Click Share Screen and select if you want to share the entire screen, an application, or a Chrome tab.

If you're going to share video content, select Optimize for Video for a higher frame-rate and lower resolution. This gives a more fluid video sharing experience.

4

To stop sharing, click Stop Sharing from your browser.

The Room USB provides the Best Overview feature: the camera automatically detects meeting participants and provides ideal framing.

Using the remote control, navigate to the name of the device in the top left corner, and press OK. Toggle Best camera overview on or off.

Admin Guidelines for Cisco Webex Room USB

Introducing Cisco Webex Room USB

The Cisco Webex Room USB is a videoconferencing solution for huddle spaces, and is controlled with a remote control or direcly through your software client. It provides a great video and audio experience in meetings, with features such as automatic noise cancellation and best overview. When not in use, you can display custom content with digital signage and add customized branding on your screen. The Room USB also works as a 4K local content sharing hub and connects from your computer to your display with an HDMI cable.

You can only register the Room USB as a shared device.

When registered to Cisco Webex, these features are available:

  • Webex Control Hub, offering remote management, software upgrades, and analytics

  • Digital signage and branding

  • Wireless sharing through your browser

  • Smart rooms, providing people count for usage metrics, and automatic screen integration through HDMI

Activate a Cisco Webex Room or Desk Device or Webex Board

Before you begin

When you register your room or desk device or Webex Board to Cisco Webex, you can administer it from Control Hub. To learn more about Control Hub, see Get started with Cisco Webex Control Hub.

Before you start setting up your device, create a place and a 16-digit activation code on Control Hub. Read here how to Generate an Activation Code for a Device.

If you want to add Cisco Webex Calling (formerly Spark Call) and other services, see Add Services to a Place with Cisco Webex Boards, Room and Desk Devices. Note that you can't add Cisco Webex Calling to the Room USB.

The device is shipped with preinstalled software and updates are installed automatically. If there’s a software update available when you first register a new device, we recommend that you upgrade it. To find out more about software updates, see Automatic software updates.

1

Install and plug in the needed cables according to the installation guide instructions. When the device is plugged in, it automatically starts up and checks the network connection. If the network connection works, the device checks for updates of Webex RoomOS and installs any new versions it finds. If there is an issue with the connection, you see an error message that suggests a possible cause.

2

After the software update, the setup wizard starts. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your network preferences, enter the activation code, and check the screen, camera, and sound.

You can change the language settings before starting the setup wizard, or afterward from the Settings menu.

The time format follows your network's time zone setting and can't be configured separately.

Use Wi-Fi on Room USB

On Room USB, you can choose to use either a wired or a Wi-Fi connection.

You can change between wired and Wi-Fi connection from the devices Settings menu. You need the remote control to access the menu.

If you want to use Wi-Fi, you must first disconnect the Ethernet cable.

We support the following authentication types:

  • Open

  • WPA-PSK (AES)

  • WPA2-PSK (AES)

  • WPA-EAP-PEAP

  • EAP-TLS

  • EAP-TTLS

  • EAP-FAST

  • PEAP

  • EAP-MSCHAPv2

  • EAP-GTC

The device only remembers one network at a time. If you change between different networks, you have to type in the passphrase again.

1

Go to the device name on the home screen, and select Settings. Go to Network Connection, and select Wi-Fi.

2

Select the Wi-Fi you want to connect to.

3

If the network requires authentication, type in the passphrase, and select Connect.
