We wanted to expand the capabilities of our devices and make them into multiactivity devices which can cover all the needs in your workday. With this in mind, it was important to renew our user experience. One of the core changes is the ability of operating system to run multiple apps at the same time. You can easily switch between a web app, whiteboard, and your ongoing meeting.

The RoomOS 11 experience is the default user experience on Board Pro 55, Board Pro 75, and Desk Mini.

RoomOS 11 experience is supported on Webex registered devices and devices that are linked with Webex Edge for Devices with cloud-managed software upgrade enabled.

Administrators can toggled on the new user experience for the following devices:

  • Webex Desk and Desk Pro

  • Board 55/55S, Board 70/70S, and Board 85S

Basic navigation
Access the home screen and any open apps, swipe up from the bottom handle and select the preview that you want to open.

If there are more buttons than available space on the home screen, you’ll see dots under the buttons. Swipe to right to see more buttons.

Some apps open as dialogues. If the dialogue is in the way of something you want to see on the screen, you can touch and hold the top part of the window and move it sideways.

Task switcher

Task switcher is the place to access the home screen and the apps you have open on the device. You can view any apps whether you’re in a call or using your device for other tasks.

While you’re in a call, your call will stay on the screen as a small floating window. This way you can privately access other apps on your device, for example, while someone is presenting, and you want to look something up on the side. You can drag and drop the call window to another place on the screen, so it doesn’t get in the way of what you want to see on your laptop screen.

Close apps

To close a full screen app, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open the task switcher. Then swipe up on the preview image of the app you want to close.

In the control panel you can find the device settings. To open the control panel and device settings, swipe from the right side of the screen. You can open it at any time, no matter what other apps you are using at the time.

In the Control panel you can find:

  • Self-view

  • Camera settings

  • Microphone options

  • Do not disturb mode

  • Standby

  • Screen brightness

  • Device volume/Speakers

  • Access to device settings

  • End session (when you have created whiteboards or annotations)

Now, you can open the Settings menu when you’re in a call without it interrupting you from following in on what’s going on. The Settings menu opens as a dialogue on top of your call, and you can make the changes you need, such as connect to a Bluetooth headset, without missing a beat.

To see the device’s contact information, tap the device name in the top left corner on the home screen.


All whiteboards that you create in one session are open as separate apps. To switch between whiteboards, simply swipe up from the bottom of the screen and tap a preview image to open that whiteboard.


Files is a new app where you can find the whiteboards you have created on the device. But you can also access other files that may be available for you on your device.

If you connect a Webex App space from the app to your device, you can open files shared in that space from Files.

Call controls

To bring up call controls in a call, tap the screen.

All the controls you need in a call are in the same place in the bottom of the screen.

Here you can find:

  • Webex Assistant for closed captions (Host only)

  • Layout

  • Self-view and manual camera controls

  • Call controls

  • Participant list

Share in a call

We have made changes to how you can share content in a call.

When you tap the Share button in call, a window opens. You can choose from any sources connected to your device.

This can be:

  • Computer

  • Proximity app

  • Guest share

  • Start sharing a new whiteboard

  • Files from a Webex app space if a space is open on the device

Select one the options and tap Share now. If you have a laptop connected to the device with an HDMI or a USB-C cable, this will be the first option.

Tap Stop share on your device’s screen when you want to stop sharing.

Show me in front of a presentation

You can show yourself in front of the share while presenting just like when you are presenting in a meeting room. Tap Share in the call controls and toggle on Show me in front of presentation and select where you want to be on the screen. Then tap Share now. Your camera needs to be open for this option.

View your laptop screen on the device

You can use your device as an extension for your laptop screen. You can find the laptop screen in the task switcher just like the other apps you’re using.

You can view your laptop screen also while you’re in a call. After you select to view your laptop screen, you see the call and presentation in a filmstrip. To make the laptop preview smaller and the call larger, drag down from the handle that’s on top of the laptop preview.

You can tap and drag the filmstrip to change it to a small floating window. You can drag and drop the floating window to one of the designated areas on the screen. This way it doesn’t get in the way of what you want to see on your laptop screen.

This works when your laptop is connected to the device with a HDMI or USB-C cable.


We have moved the Layout menu button to the call controls, so it’s easier to access while you’re in a call. You can still find a selection of layouts to choose one that fits your meeting style.

If interactive content, such as whiteboards or annotations, is shared in a call, the layout automatically changes to the stacked option. This gives the best view of the content that’s being shared.

Administrators can toggle on RoomOS 11 experience for Board and Desk Series devices in their organization.

From the customer view on https://admin.webex.com, go to Devices and Settings. Under RoomOS 11 UI Experience you can toggle the new experience as the default for all the Board and Desk Series devices.

If you want to preview the new experience on individual devices, you can set the device configuration UserInterface Concept Tablet Mode to Compositor. See the Device configurations article on how to change configurations on devices.

  • Companion mode is currently not supported with RoomOS 11.

  • Touch 10 or Room Navigator paired to a Board Pro using RoomOS 11 New UI is currently not supported.

  • Self-view handling and camera control aren’t complete and not working as intended.

  • Audio volume from a connected input source doesn’t decrease when there’s an incoming call.

  • Annotation on wireless share isn’t available.

  • APIs related to layout, inputs, and sharing aren’t ready and may not work as on RoomOS 10. Macros using these APIs will have unpredictable behavior.

  • In-call UI extensions don’t appear in call controls.

  • Consultative flows are currently not supported on devices linked with Webex Edge for Devices.
