Recording Transcripts

For WBS39.5 and later, Automatic Recording Transcripts is now available.


Webex meetings or events must be recorded in order to transcribe them.

You can enable the automatic transcription of the audio for all recorded Cisco Webex meetings and events or you can enable the feature for specific users only. The transcripts appear during recording playback. Users can search for text in the transcript to verify what was said, and when.

The transcripts are available in English and only support transcribing the English Audio.


Recording Transcripts is not available at this time for FedRAMP-authorized Webex offerings.

Once the recording is complete the transcript takes approximately twice the duration of the meeting to be produced.

When the transcript is available it appears at the side of the recording.

Enable Recording Transcripts for Your Cisco Webex Site

Sign in to Webex Site Administration and go to Common Site Settings > Options.

Scroll down to Site Options and check the Create recording transcripts for all hosts' MP4 recordings check box.

This setting enables transcripts for all hosts' MP4 recordings on the Webex site.

If you want to enable transcripts for specific hosts only, follow the steps under Enable Recording Transcripts for a User.

If you checked the previous check box, you can still allow hosts to choose whether to create transcripts for their recordings by checking the Allow hosts to turn on or off recording transcripts in My Webex preferences check box.

Users can set their preference in Preferences > Recording > Create recording transcripts for all my MP4 recordings.

Enable Recording Transcripts for a User

Sign in to Webex Site Administration and go to User Management > Edit User.

Use the search options to locate the user for whom you want to enable transcripts, and then click the Name for that user.

In the Privileges > General section, check Create recording transcripts for all of this user's MP4 recordings..



You can also enable transcripts for new users, when you create their accounts. Go to User Management > Add User > Privileges > General and then check Create recording transcripts for all of this user's MP4 recordings..

From the customer view in https://admin.webex.com, go to Common Settings > Site Options.

Scroll down to and check the Create recording transcripts for all hosts' MP4 recordings check box.

This setting enables transcripts for all hosts' MP4 recordings on the Webex site.

If you want to enable transcripts for specific hosts only, follow the steps under Enable Recording Transcripts for a User.

Enable Recording Transcripts for a User

From the customer view in https://admin.webex.com, go to Users, and select the user that you want to enable transcripts for.

In the panel that opens on the right, in the Services section, click Meeting.

Under Webex Meeting Sites, select the user's Webex site.

Click User Privileges and then click Advanced User Settings and Tracking Codes.

Check Create recording transcripts for all of this user's MP4 recordings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Is there a charge for using the transcription service?

Answer: Recording transcriptions service has no additional cost for customers who currently have the NBR (Network Based Recordings) enabled. Administrators need to ensure that the NBR and transcription capability is ON for their sites.

Question: Is the transcription service available in my region?

Answer: The transcription service is available globally for all customers using NBRs. However, the recording transcription service supports English language only. If your meeting is in a language other than English, the resulting transcript may not be meaningful.

Question: How long does it take for a recording to get transcribed?

Answer: In most circumstances, a transcript appears within twice the duration of your meeting that is being transcribed. However, in rare circumstances it may take up to 24 hours for a transcription to appear, either due to the size of the meeting, or due to the temporary load on the transcription engine.

Question: How do I download the transcripts?

Answer: You can download the transcripts from your Webex site in Modern View.

Question: Why don’t I see my transcripts?

Answer: Transcripts might not be available for the following reasons:

  • Your account has not been enabled for transcripts—If you do not see a transcript panel when you play your recordings, then you do not have the transcript service enabled. Contact your site administrator for getting the transcription service activated.

  • You see an error in the transcript panel instead of the transcript—The system will not produce a transcript if the overall quality/accuracy of the transcript is anticipated to be poor. It may happen if the audio quality in the meeting was bad due to the following constraints:

    • Noisy background

    • Poor acoustics

    • Non-English words present in the audio

    • Thick accents
