Mute or Unmute All Attendees in a Meeting

During an active meeting in a space, anyone can select Mute All. Then, everyone except for the person muting and the current presenter, gets muted.

In a standard Webex or Personal Room meeting, only the host or cohost can select Mute All. Then, everyone except the host, cohost, and the current presenter, gets muted.

Go to the participants list and click Mute All.

For a standard Webex meeting or Personal Room meeting, uncheck Allow attendees to unmute themselves to prevent attendees from unmuting themselves until you grant them permission to, and then click Mute All.

Allow attendees to unmute themselves

When you uncheck Allow attendees to unmute themselves, you turn on Mute on entry, so anyone who joins the meeting late is muted automatically.

If you don't want to mute attendees as they join the meeting, go to More options More options in the participants list and uncheck Mute on entry.

You can turn on or turn off mute on entry only when Allow attendees to unmute themselves is unchecked.

Everyone in the meeting sees a notification that lets them know they've been muted. If you didn't prevent attendees from unmuting themselves, they'll see Muted beside their name in the participants list and they can unmute themselves when they need to. If you prevented attendees from unmuting themselves, they'll see Muted, can't unmute beside their name in the participants list and a notification that they can't unmute themselves.

To unmute everyone, go to the participants list and select Unmute All. Everyone in a Webex meeting sees a notification that lets them know they can unmute themselves.


When you mute yourself, you stay muted, even when someone else selects Unmute All.

During an active meeting, go to Participants , tap Mute control at the bottom of your window, and then tap Mute All.

For a standard Webex meeting or Personal Room meeting, choose whether to allow attendees to unmute themselves:

  • Tap Allow and Mute All to allow attendees to unmute themselves.
  • Tap Don't Allow and Mute All to prevent attendees from unmuting themselves until you grant them permission to.

When you tap Don't Allow and Mute All, you turn on Mute On Entry, so anyone who joins the meeting late is muted automatically.

If you don't want to mute attendees as they join the meeting, tap More > Don't Mute On Entry.

You can turn on or turn off mute on entry only when Don't Allow and Mute All is selected.

Everyone in the meeting sees a notification that lets them know they've been muted. If you didn't prevent attendees from unmuting themselves, they'll see Unmute beside their name in the participants list and they can unmute themselves when they need to. If you prevented attendees from unmuting themselves, they'll see beside their name in the participants list and see a notification that they can't unmute themselves.

Mute or Unmute a Specific Attendee in a Meeting

During an active meeting, go to the participants list , click the person's name, and select mute . You know it's working when you see beside their name to indicate they're muted.

If you want to unmute someone, click beside the person's name in the participants list.

If you see Muted, can't unmute themselves beside the person's name in the participants list, that indicates that they're muted and can't unmute themselves. Hover over Muted, can't unmute themselves and click Request unmute to send a request to the attendee to unmute themselves. They can unmute themselves or stay muted.

During an active meeting, go to Participants and then tap Mute beside the person's name. You'll then see beside their name to indicate that they're muted.

If you want to unmute people, tap Unmute beside the person's name in the people list, or tap the person's name, and then select Unmute in the pop-up menu.

If you see Request unmute beside the person's name, that indicates that they're muted and can't unmute themselves. Tap the person's name and tap Unmute to send a request to the attendee to unmute themselves. They can unmute themselves or stay muted.

If you want to unmute people, click beside the person's name in the people list.
