Make a conference call on 9800/8875 (Unified CM)

This Help article is for Cisco Desk Phone 9800 Series and Cisco Video Phone 8875 registered to Cisco Unified Communications Manager.

You can converse with several people in a single call. When you’re on a phone call, you can dial another person and add them into the conversation without having to schedule a meeting. As a host, you can remove a participant from the conference call.

According to your administrator's configuration, other participants (non-host users) may also have the removal permission.

If you have multiple phone lines, you can join two calls across two lines. The conference will end automatically when all participants hang up.

Add more people to a call

On an active call, you can initiate a conference call or add additional people to a call by using the Conference key. Depending on the phone model, the Conference key can be a hard key or softkey. The Conference hard key the Conference key is available on 8875 and 9800 Series phones (except 9811). The softkey appears as Conf on 9811 and Conference on other models.

According to the configuration on the server side, a conference call can accommodate up to 64 participants (including yourself).

On an active call, press the Conference hard key or softkey.

For 9811, 9841,9851, and 9861 Press Conf or Conference.

Once you press the Conference key, the current call is automatically put on hold.

Select the person that you want to add from call history, contacts, or on-hold calls. Do one of the following actions as needed:

  • To add a person from directories, select Directories, locate the person, then select Call.
  • To add a person from the call history, select Recents, locate the person, then select Call.
  • To add a person from an on-hold call, select Calls to open the list, then select the desired call and select the Conference key to add it to the conference.

    The Calls tab appears only when there are on-hold calls on the phone.

  • Directly dial a phone number using the keypad.

To consult the person before adding them to the conference call, wait until they answer your call before pressing the Conference key.

Press the Conference key to add the person to the conference call.

Repeat Steps 1 through 3 to add more participants.

View and manage participants

You can view the participants who have joined the current conference call. If you are the initiator of the conference call, you can remove participants from the conference call. According to the administrator's configuration, all participants may have the permission to remove participants.

If you don't see the Participants option in a conference, consult your administrator.

During a conference call, locate and select Participants (n), where <n> represents the count of people who have joined the conference.

The count displays only on Cisco Desk Phone 9861 and 9871, and Cisco Video Phone 8875.
The participants list displays.

To remove a participant, select Remove on the participant.

The conference call ends automatically when all participants hang up.

To refresh the participants list, select Update.
