The Companion mode allows the phone to participate in video meetings or calls by using the Webex App for video. You can send and receive video or share content through the Webex App while keeping audio on the phone. This Help article is for Cisco Desk Phone 9800 Series registered to Cisco Unified Communications Manager (Unified CM).

Pair your phone with Webex App

When your phone is connected to Webex App, you can make, answer, and manage calls directly from the app—such as placing calls on hold, resuming calls, transferring calls, and starting conferences. These actions will be synced with your phone.

To enable your phone to use your desktop camera through the connected Webex App for video calls and meetings, make sure to toggle on Enable desktop camera for calls on the app. During a video session, you are able to view video or shared content from participants, as well as share your own video or content through Webex App. The Webex App manages the video, while the audio stays on your phone.

Before you begin

  • Your phone is running on PhoneOS 3.6 or later.

  • You run Webex App 45.11 or later on Windows OS. This feature isn't supported on Webex App for macOS.

  • Your administrator has enabled this feature on your phone.

  • If you are an Extension Mobility user, log in to the phone first before connecting it with your Webex App.

1

On Webex App, click Connect to a device.

2

In Personal devices section, select your phone.

Webex App will pair up with the phone. Phone will not enter deep sleep mode until you disconnect the phone from the app.

3

Toggle on Enable desktop camera for calls.

The Webex App prompts you to verify the code on your phone. The verification code will time out in 30 seconds.

4

Go to your phone, verify the code and select Connect to allow the connection.
