Control Hub User States Overview

The purpose of this article is to help you understand what the user states mean and how new users come to be in those states.

User State

What this means

Active

This is the ideal state for users to be in during normal use. User is part of the organization and is using or ready to use their collaboration services. No further administrative action is required.

Verified

This is a good state for the user to be in during preferred onboarding flows. The user is part of the organization. The user’s identity has been validated. The user is ready to use their services but has not yet started (has not signed in).

Not Verified

This state can happen quite easily during onboarding. The user is part of the organization but their identity has not yet been validated. They may still be verifying their identity when accessing Webex for the first time.

Users cannot use their services if they are stuck in this state.

Inactive

A new user cannot be created in this state.

Users can get into this state when deactivated by an admin or by Active Directory synchronization.

Delayed Claim

The user has successfully been claimed into your organization, but has not yet chosen how to handle their data from their previous organization. There is a 14 day period for the user to decide, before the default action takes place (both of which will change the user's state. See https://help.webex.com/nceb8tm about claiming / converting users into your organization).

Not Verified

These are the ways a user can go into the Not Verified state:

  • You added the user and their email domain is not verified in your organization.

  • You converted a Not Verified user from another organization and their email domain is not verified in your organization.

Verified

These are the ways a user can go into the Verified state:

  • The user went through the email verification process. This changes their state from Not Verified to Verified.

  • You verified the email domain and then added the users (by a method that isn't AD sync).

  • You added the user to the organization by site linking.

  • You converted a Verified user from another organization.

  • You verified the email domain and then converted a Not Verified user from another organization.

Active

Users most commonly become Active when they sign in to Webex. Signing in for the first time moves a new user's state from Verified to Active.

The other ways a user state can become Active are:

  • You verified their email domain belongs to your organization and then synchronized the user from your Active Directory. This combination of actions makes a user Active, even if they have not yet signed in.

  • You converted an Active user from another organization.

  • Claim users: we use this term interchangeably with "convert users", and it means to bring users from other Webex organizations into your own Webex organization. We also use the word "claim" for domains.

  • Verify domains: A process that leverages DNS to prove that you own the email domain. Helps with user onboarding.

  • Claim domains: After you verify your email domains, you can claim them to prevent users with those domains from joining any other organization by any other means.

  • User management: Umbrella term for the tasks involved in moving users into and out of your organization, and configuring their services.

  • Site linking: connecting your Webex Meetings site with your Webex organization in Control Hub.
