Click the record button to record your meeting

There are two ways to record meetings and webinar. Your account type and Webex site configuration determine which recording method you can use.

You can record meetings as a cohost in Webex version 42.12 and later.

Beginning April 1, 2023, you can't use Webex Events (classic) to schedule webinars. You can still access any existing recordings of webinars scheduled with Events (classic) after that date.

Frequently asked questions

  • You may not be the host of the meeting. If you were invited to the meeting, request the host to record.

If the host isn't in the meeting, a cohost assumes the host role and can record. Once the original host joins, they take back the host role and the ability to record.

  • Your site may be out of recording space. Download or delete recordings to make space.

  • Recording may be disabled. Contact your Webex site administrator.

  • For free users, recording is currently only available from the desktop app. If you start a meeting from the web app using Chromebook, you can't record it.

Recordings saved either to the cloud or to your computer will be saved in MP4 format.

If recorded to your computer, the panels, such as the Chat panel and Participants panel, and any video files you share using Share File are not included in the recording.

Webex stores all your recorded meetings either locally on your computer or on your Webex site. You can find your recordings and share or download them from your Webex site.

If you were invited to a meeting as an attendee or cohost, reach out to the host of your meeting to get the recording.

Depending on file size and bandwidth, it can take up to 24 hours to receive your recording.

For meetings or webinars that last many hours, it's a good idea to make multiple recordings for more manageable file size and easier viewing.

When the recording is ready, we'll send you an email with the recording and all the details you need to play and share it with others.

If you clicked Record during your meeting, you will see the recording indicator on the top-right of your window informing you that the meeting is being recorded. After the meeting, you can also check your Meetings list on your Webex site to see if your meeting was successfully recorded.

Sign in to your Webex site.

Select Meetings > Completed.

Meetings that have been successfully recorded will have a Recording label.

Webex recordings in the cloud are stored in MP4 format, and play on most computers without having to install any new software.

If you attended or missed a meeting or webinar, ask the host to share the recording link and password.

If you're the host, you can play or download the recording from your Webex site.

On a Windows computer, you can convert a recording in the Advanced Recording Format (ARF) to the MPEG-4 format (.MP4).

You cannot convert recordings on a Mac.

Site Administrators can enable the automatic transcription of audio for MP4 meeting recordings. They can turn on the functionality for everyone, for specific users, or allow users to turn it on for themselves. Check out Recording Transcripts for more details.

Recording transcripts are currently not available in the Webex free plan.

Known issues and limitations

  • If you start a meeting by phone, you can't record it.

  • Recording on your computer is currently only available from the desktop app. If you start a meeting from a device using the web app, such as a Chromebook, you can't record it.

  • If you show your camera in front of the presentation when you share content, your camera video doesn't appear in recordings.

  • If you sync your stage with everyone, the first person that you add to the stage appears in meeting or webinar recordings instead of the active speaker. If you want to record the active speaker instead of the first person on the stage, contact support.
  • Recording playback on Windows Media Player isn’t fully supported. Q&A, polling, chat, transcript, and chapter functionality won’t be available when viewing the recording.

  • You can't choose a recording layout for recordings to your computer.
  • If you share content using Share file, that content doesn't appear in recordings to your computer.
  • Recordings to your computer only include audio when you choose Computer audio. If you choose Call me or Call in, the audio doesn't record.
  • Recordings to your computer don't capture transcriptions, chat records, participant lists, or files shared during the meeting.
