21:9 screen support on Room Series
You can join Webex Meetings using the full width of 21:9 ultrawide screens for an enhanced meeting experience.
We support a single 21:9 aspect ratio screen with all our Room Series devices. The homescreen and Webex Meetings and Calling utilize the entire screen estate. The device automatically recognizes that it is connected to a 21:9 screen.
Cabled share defaults to 16:9 for better compatibility for content sharing in meetings. To utilize the entire screen when sharing from a laptop with 21:9 screen, you must enable 21:9 input on the Cisco device.
User experience, particularly with display wake-up and resolution support, may vary across different models.
Issues and limitations:
-
In some scenarios only 16:9 aspect ratio is available, and the image is pillar-boxed. This includes:
- Transcoded meetings, such as WebRTC, Unified CM, and Multisite
- Digital signage
- Sharing in most cases
- Video matrix is not supported.
- Custom halfwake backgrounds WallpaperFillMode can't be configured. It always defaults to Crop.
- Dual or triple screen scenarios are not supported.
- Board and Desk Series are not supported.
Enable output
What resolution is chosen when a screen is connected depends on the set of input resolutions that are supported by the screen and the set of output resolutions that are supported by the device, but also what priority those resolutions have in EDID. Based on this the resolution can end up as 16:9, even if both the device and the screen support 21:9.
To enable 21:9 output, first check all nodes under xStatus Video Output Connector[n] ConnectedDevice SupportedFormat and see if you can find a 21:9 resolution that is True.
These output resolutions are supported:
-
2560 x 1080
-
2880 x 1200
-
3440 x 1440
-
3840 x 1600
-
3840 x 1620
If you find one or more 21:9 resolutions that are True, set the resolution using:
xConfiguration Video Output Connector[n] Resolution
If none of the 21:9 resolutions are True, it’s not possible to use this screen with 21:9 resolution.
Enable input
By default, Cisco devices support 16:9 resolutions. This ensures that your laptop selects a 16:9 resolution, which provides the optimal sharing experience in video calls.
We recommend using 21:9 resolution only when your content is designed to fill the entire 21:9 display area for the best viewing experience.
When you share a 16:9 presentation, like a PowerPoint, on a 21:9 screen, it'll be pillar-boxed with black bars on the left and right sides. If you then share this 21:9 view in a video call, especially with people using 16:9 screens, it may also be letter-boxed with black bars above and below. This means that your presentation could end up framed by black bars on all four sides.
To use 21:9 resolutions for content sharing, set xConfiguration Video Input Connector[n] PreferredResolution to a 21:9 value listed below. This enables the device to receive a 21:9 signal in extended mode from a laptop.
