Webex app supports Remote Desktop Control (RDC) when the presenter is sharing the full screen or a portion of the screen. If the presenter is sharing an application window, then the viewer can't request RDC and the presenter can't give control to others. Sometimes it's safer to share one or multiple application windows instead of sharing the full screen in case you unintentionally share some sensitive information. Now RDC is enabled when the presenter shares application windows.

granting remote desktop control when sharing an application window during a meeting

Before you begin

You and another person must be using the Webex desktop app and be in a share screen session already: during a meeting, or in a space with one other person.

1

Choose the screen or application that you want to share.

2

When you're sharing your application window during a meeting with one other person, you can give them access to control your keyboard and mouse in that application. To start sharing your application:

• Click Give remote control in the more sharing options and then select the name of the person.

The other person can then control your shared application.

If the request isn’t answered in 30 seconds, a request needs to be made again.

  • Alternately, an attendee can send a request to access your screen remotely by clicking the Request control button.

If you don't answer your request in 30 seconds, then the attendee needs to make the request again.

You can’t annotate or use the whiteboard while you're controlling someone's screen.

3

You or the other person can end the remote screen session.

  • To end the RDC in a space, click End remote control.

  • To end the remote screen session in a meeting, click Stop control.

You can also click to end the share screen session altogether.

When using a Mac and your screen is going to be controlled, you need to allow Webex app to control your computer in Security & Privacy > Accessibility settings. That way, the mouse works during a remote desktop session.

Limitation: During an RDC session when the presenter is sharing a window on MacOS, if there is another window from the same application covering the window being shared, the mouse clicks from the controlling party are applied to the covering window instead of the window being shared.
