If you work with Webex Calling and Slack, we've made it easier to make a direct call from Slack using the Cisco Webex app. Simply install the app from the Slack Directory, and enable the native caller in Slack to use Webex Calling. You must have a valid Webex Calling account to use the Webex app with Slack, and make sure your dialplan is correctly configured to use all features.

If your workspace administrator hasn’t installed this app already for your workspace, click the Add to Slack button below.

Before you begin

Your administrator must enable Webex Calling as a calling option in Slack.

Open a Direct Message (DM) or channel with the person you want to call.

Choose an option:

  • In a DM or channel, click Call , and then select Webex Call.
  • Click the user's profile, click Call, and then select Webex Call. This makes a call to the user's email address.

Use these commands with the Cisco Webex app in Slack to call someone in a direct message, a phone number or a SIP address using Webex. You can also ask a colleague to call you, and get support information about Webex using app commands in Slack. Entering a command will create a clickable link in the direct message or channel to launch a call in Webex.

When making a call using the Webex app for the first time, a confirmation message pops up. To stop receiving this message everytime you make a call, check the Always open links from webextel check box and click Open Link .

The Cisco Webex app for Slack is supported by Cisco Unified Communication Manager (Unified CM) or Webex Calling. If using Unified CM, then the calling environment must be enabled for SIP Uniform Resource Identifiers (URI) dialing. Make sure users' SIP URI match the email address used to sign in to Slack. If using Webex Calling, make sure the userid matches the email address used to sign in to Webex.

Sign into your workspace administrator account in Slack.

Click Add to Slack below to add the app.

Before you begin
