Anti-Malware Protection

With Extended Security Pack, you can choose to enable anti-malware scanning for files uploaded in Webex Teams. Webex anti-malware capabilities are powered by Cisco Talos ClamAV.

When people upload files in Webex Teams, the files are scanned for malware and if the files are infected, people won't be able to download or preview the file. When files are first uploaded, they are automatically quarantined for evaluation and users can't download or preview the file during the evaluation period.

Supported App Versions

Anti-malware is supported on the following versions of Webex Teams:

  • Webex Teams for Windows 3.0.14375.0 or later

  • Webex Teams for Mac 3.0.14375.0 or later

  • Webex Teams for iPhone and iPad 4.9 or later.

When users upload files using older Webex Teams apps or Webex Teams for Android, the files are scanned and users will be unable to download any infected files but they won't see any error messages to indicate that the files are infected.

Things to keep in mind

  • Only files uploaded after you enable anti-malware scanning are checked. Any files uploaded to spaces before you enabled anti-malware scanning, are not scanned for malware.

  • For spaces owned by your organization with participants from another organization with no anti-malware protection, all files uploaded are scanned. This includes files uploaded in group spaces and in spaces with just one other participant.

  • For spaces owned by an organization with no anti-malware protection, the following applies:

    • Files uploaded by your organization's users are scanned for malware. This includes files uploaded in group spaces and in spaces with just one other participant.

    • In a group space, files uploaded by a user from the organization with no anti-malware protection are not scanned on upload or download. Known Limitation—Users in your organization can download the files that are not scanned.
