When you delete a device in Control Hub, the phone is automatically factory reset (supported on firmware 12.0.3 or later), and you don’t need to manually factory reset your phone. If you plan to reassign the phone to another user or workspace, it must be deleted first.

If you need to manually factory reset your Webex Calling phone, we recommend you use the method found in the phone’s settings menu to easily access the factory reset. These steps are outlined below.


To manually factory reset a phone that isn’t on the Webex Calling system, you can perform the keystroke sequence. For these steps, see the keystroke sequence steps below for your device.

Press Settings.

Select Device administration.

Select Factory reset.

After the phone reboots, the main screen appears.

What to do next

If the phone was originally onboarded using its MAC address, it reconnects to Webex Calling. If the phone was onboarded using an activiation code, it requires a new activation code or needs to be onboarded using its MAC address to reconnect to Webex Calling.

If your phone isn't on the Webex Calling system, use these steps to perform a manual factory reset.

Unplug the phone:

  • If using PoE, unplug the LAN cable.

  • If using the power cube, unplug using the power cube.

Wait 5 seconds.

Press and hold # and plug the phone back in.

When the phone boots up:
  • For Cisco IP phone 6821, the lights on the light strip and the line keys light up.

  • For Cisco IP phone 6841 and 6851, the lights on the headset button, the speaker button, and the handset flash.

Press 123456789*0# keys in sequence to begin the factory reset process.


 

If you press the buttons out of sequence, the phone powers on normally.


 

Don't power down the phone until it completes the factory reset process and the main screen appears.

  • For Cisco IP phone 6821, when you press a key, the lights on the line keys and the light strip flash.

  • For Cisco IP phone 6841 and 6851, when you press 1, the handset light and the light on the speaker button turn off.

If your phone isn't on the Webex Calling system, use these steps to perform a manual factory reset.

Before you begin

You must know if your phone is an original hardware release or if the hardware has been updated and re-released.

Unplug the phone:

  • If using PoE, unplug the LAN cable.

  • If using the power cube, unplug using the power cube.

Wait 5 seconds.

Do one of the following:

  • Method 1: Press and hold # and plug the phone back in.
  • Method 2: Press and hold 0 and plug the phone back in.

 

Only Cisco IP phones 8845, 8865, 8841, 8851, and 8861 support method 2. The hardware version of Cisco IP phone 8841, 8851, and 8861 must be 15 or later.

The phone begins the reboot process. The headset button and speaker button light up.

On earlier hardware versions, the mute button lights up. Wait for mute button to turn off.

Do one of the following:

  • Method 1: Press 123456789*0# in sequence.

    When you press 1, the light on the headset button turns off. The light on the select button flashes when a button is pressed. After you press these buttons, the phone goes through the factory reset process. If you press the buttons out of sequence, the phone powers on normally.


     

    Don't power down the phone until it completes the factory reset process and the main screen appears.

  • Method 2: Press 369# in sequence.

    For the Cisco IP phone 8845, 8865, 8841, 8851, and 8861, the phone screen disappears. At the same time, the lights on the headset, speaker, and mute button are flashing.

If you use method 2, unplug and plug in the phone again to reboot it.

After the phone reboots, the main screen appears.

When the mute button goes off, release the # button and press 123456789*0# in sequence. After you press these buttons, the mute LED illuminates again, and the phone goes through the factory reset process.

Once the factory reset is complete, the phone goes through the out-of-box workflow.
