Webex | Audio and Video Calls

With Webex, you can make audio or video calls. So, if you're having a bad hair day or calling someone while on the go, you don't have to worry about sharing video if you don't want to. But, when you're ready to meet face-to-face, a video call is just a click away!

Audio Calls

If you're calling someone from your desktop or mobile app, you can turn off the video before you start the call by making an audio call .

Video Calls

Or, if you're ready to make your video call , you can do that from desktop, mobile, or web. If you change your mind, you can always turn off your video during your call.

If your organization uses Calling in Webex (Unified CM), you can turn off your video for incoming calls too.

Webex | Call Someone in Your Organization

If your organization has configured your Webex account to let you call other people's phone numbers, you can call other people within your organization on their work numbers, mobile numbers or video addresses. Calling people like this gives you access to advanced calling features beyond just calling someone in the app.

You can make a call from many different places in Webex. Just look for the Audio or Video call icons whenever you're working directly with one other person, like when you're messaging them directly, searching for them, looking at their contact card, or entering their name or email address into the dialpad.

If you have multiple phone lines, you can change the active line for calling.

Choose whether you want to make it an Audio or Video call and then select the person's Work number, Mobile number or Video Address.

After your call connects, you get slightly different options depending on whether you choose someone's work number, mobile number or video address.

If you've called their work number or video address as a video call, you can turn the video on and off and, if available, share your screen.

But, if you've chosen someone's mobile number, the call goes through like a regular audio-only phone call, which means you can't turn the video on or share your screen.

With either work numbers, mobile numbers or video address, you can click to get access to advanced calling features. You can put your call on hold or transfer the person to someone else. With some configurations, you can also merge calls or start a conference call.

If your administrator has enabled call security for your organization, you'll see at the top right of your calling window, letting you know that the call is secure.

Webex | Supported Calling Options

In Webex, you get assigned a calling option that works best in your organization or for your individual needs. So, when you make a call from the app, your calling experience depends on your account settings.

You can make a call from many different places in Webex. Just look for the Audio or Video call icons whenever you're working directly with one other person, like when you're messaging them directly , searching for them, looking at their contact card , or entering their name or email address into the dialpad if you're a paid user.

Calls on Webex

Anyone with a Webex account (on desktop, mobile, or web) can make these calls to anyone else who has a Webex account, whether they're in the same organization as you or not and whether the accounts are free or paid.

These are special types of calls that let you add guests to the call, share your whiteboard, and share your screens. You don't need or use their phone number; you just need to be connected to them in the app. You can call anyone with a Webex account or answer calls when someone calls you like this too. After reviewing the final marketing plan shared in your one-to-one space, you can call the vendor immediately to let them know about the last-minute logo change. You can also manually enter a video address (SIP address) in the search bar if you want to call a non-Webex user with an address or dial into a meeting bridge (such as username@example.webex.com.

Basic Calls to Phone Numbers within Organization

Your organization might set up your account so that you can call other people using their phone number (on desktop or mobile). With this set up, you can call someone in your organization or answer their calls too. Click your manager’s phone number and have a face-to-face call right over Webex to let her know about the success of your marketing plan.

With this setup, you get access to more calling features (on desktop and mobile), depending on which calling option your organization chooses. To figure out which calling service you've been set up with, see Find Out What Calling Service You Have .

Basic Phone Calls to Anyone

If your organization is using Unified CM or Webex Calling, you can also call anyone with a phone number or answer calls from anyone calling your work number. When you make these types of calls, it's just like making a regular phone call from any other phone. When it's time to make reservations for your team's celebration lunch, you can call the restaurant right from Webex, too. Just go to Calls and enter the phone number.

Advanced Calls to Phone Numbers

Your company might decide that you need more calling features than we have available in Webex. For example, if you work in customer service or as an administrative assistant, you probably need to be able to handle more calls or have access to more advanced features.

Your administrator can set up your account so that when you call someone from Webex, another calling application (such as Cisco Jabber or the Webex Calling app) opens automatically.

When you make the call, you might get asked to verify that you want to open the other application. For example, if your organization uses Jabber, you get a message like this. However, if your organization uses Webex Calling, the Webex Calling app automatically opens to make the call.
