    Error: 'Setup was unsuccessful. Error [7]'

    ISSUE
    Users attempting to install or update Webex Meetings may encounter an error message stating, "Setup was unsuccessful. Error [7]." This error prevents the successful installation or update of the Webex Meetings software.

    RESOLUTION

    To troubleshoot the issue:

    You'll need to log into the computer with an Administrator account to do the steps in this article.

    • Windows
    • Mac

    Microsoft Windows

    1. Uninstall Webex Meeting Manager from the Control Panel.
      • See: WBX19806 - How Do I Uninstall Webex Software on Microsoft Windows?
    2. Download the Webex Removal Tool to your desktop.
    3. Extract the contents of the zip file to your hard drive.
    4. Double-click on the Meeting Services Removal Tool file.
      • Note: If using Windows 7, right-click on Meeting Services Removal Tool, then select Run as administrator.
    5. Follow the on-screen prompts.
    6. Download and install Cisco Webex Meetings Manager (Software).

    7. Start or join the meeting again.

    Mac

    1. Uninstall Webex Software on a Mac. For help, see How Do I Uninstall Webex Meetings Software on a Mac?
    2. Start or join the meeting again.

    If the issue persists, contact technical support. For help, see WBX162 - How Do I Contact Webex Customer Services or Technical Support?. 


    CAUSE
    This occurs due to security limitations on the computer or if the Webex software doesn't extract properly during installation.
