For Webex for Government services to continue functioning, customers need ensure that connectivity to this new domain space is allowed over customer firewalls and proxies. We highly recommend reviewing this information as documented in the Network requirements for Webex for Government (FedRAMP) page to ensure access to these services by August 2025.

Why is Webex making this change?

In preparation for new features (namely DNSSEC), we are starting to create DNS records for services in Webex for Government with a domain dedicated to Webex for Government (webexgov.us)

Will my Webex site URL change?

For now, Webex sites in Webex for Government will continue to be in the [site-name].webex.com format. This notice is specific to a new domain that will be utilized by backend services that end-users don’t directly access. In the future, if a customer needs Webex to be compliant with DNSSEC, they will need to provision a new site with webexgov.us or rename an existing site. Details of this process will be communicated well in advance of any changes.

What is DNSSEC and what will it do?

Domain Name System Security Extensions is a suite of specifications that enhances the security of the Domain Name System (DNS) by adding cryptographic signatures to DNS records. This helps authenticate the origin of DNS data and ensures its integrity, preventing attackers from manipulating or poisoning DNS responses. Customers who do not use DNSSEC in their DNS queries to Webex for Government will issue in a normal DNS query and response

What will happen if I don’t update firewall/proxies to filter on the new domain space before August 2025?

If firewalls and proxies are not updated with this new domain, connectivity to Webex meetings, calling, and messaging services as well as devices could be lost or degraded.

What if I can't proceed with URL filtering?

What if I don’t want to have wildcards in the URL?

Wildcard filtering is highly recommended to ensure connectivity to the domains is allowed.

What do I need to do if I’m a current FedRAMP Webex Calling customer?

Current recommendations exist for Webex Calling, and you should have already allowed *.webexgov.us in your domain allowed list. If not, please ensure that this new domain space is allowed over customer firewalls and proxies to contact these backend services in the new domain name space.
