Migrating your Webex site to the EU

With the launch of the new Frankfurt data center, we're allowing customers in the EU to migrate from the London data center to the one in Frankfurt. To help create an easy path for you to migrate your data, we've taken the following steps:

  • Showing you where your data is stored—With transparency as our guiding principle, you can now see which data centers that Webex sites are mapped to in Control Hub. You can use this knowledge to assess the business impact or concerns for your organization. You can view this information in Account > Data Locations.

  • Migrating your data to the new Frankfurt data center—Previously, the main data center for EU customers was in London, with a backup data center available in Amsterdam. Beginning in July 2021, the main data center for new EU customers will now be in Frankfurt, with the one in Amsterdam as a backup. Existing EU customers will have the option to migrate their data over to the data center in Frankfurt if they wish to.

If you wish to opt out of the migration, you have three days before your scheduled migration date to do so. You can see when that date is and opt out in Control Hub. If you decide later that you want to migrate to the Frankfurt data center, you'll have a chance again during the next round of migrations, targeted for early 2022.

For existing customers, the following criteria determine if your organization's data is eligible to migrate to the data center in Frankfurt.

Region selection for the organization

If the Control Hub organization was provisioned in one of these countries or regions, then the data is automatically migrated to the data center in Frankfurt:

  • Austria

  • Belgium

  • Bulgaria

  • Croatia

  • Cyprus

  • Czech Republic

  • Denmark

  • Estonia

  • Finland

  • France

  • Germany

  • Greece

  • Hungary

  • Iceland

  • Ireland

  • Italy

  • Latvia

  • Liechtenstein

  • Lithuania

  • Luxembourg

  • Malta

  • Netherlands

  • Norway

  • Poland

  • Portugal

  • Romania

  • Slovakia

  • Slovenia

  • Spain

  • Sweden

  • Switzerland

  • Türkiye

Time zone selection for the Webex Meetings site

If the Webex Meetings site was provisioned in one of these time zones, then you have the option to migrate the site to the data center in Frankfurt:

  • GMT 00:00—Dublin

  • GMT 00:00—Lisbon

  • GMT 00:00—Canary Islands

Webex sites that are opted in for migration are scheduled during the normal Webex site maintenance windows. Although the migration won't cause any major disruptions, here are the impacts to Webex services that your organization might run into.

Webex Meetings

  • Hosts and participants may experience some trouble when attempting to host or join meetings that are scheduled during the site maintenance window.

  • Participants may disconnect from meetings that are held during the site maintenance window and won't be able to join again unless the host restarts the meeting.

  • Data for one-time and reoccurring meetings that were scheduled 13 months ago won't be available after the migration.

  • Historical reports for Webex Events (classic) and Webex Support won't be available after the migration has finished. Save any necessary reports before the migration happens if you wish to keep them. The affected reports are:

    • Registration Report

    • Attendance Report

    • In-Event Activity Report

    • Event Recording Report

    • Attendee History Report

    • CSR Activity

If you didn't save any of these reports after the migration has finished, you can open a service request with Cisco support to request for them.

  • Data for Recent Personal Rooms won't be available after the migration on both the Webex site and in the Webex Meetings desktop app. This data won't be recoverable at all after the migration has finished.

  • If your organization uses Webex Edge Audio, then the configurations will still be the same after the migration has finished. But to make sure that the most optimal media path is chosen, the Lua script needs to be updated in CUCM. To do this:

    1. Export a new Lua script for the migrated site in Control Hub.

    2. Create a SIP Normalization Script from the new Lua script in Unified CM Administration.

    3. Update the existing SIP Normalization Script to the new one that you created in step 2.

    4. Save and reset the SIP trunk.
