Webex Device Connector is a lightweight piece of software that you can use in your Control Hub-managed organization to automate your device-related tasks: onboarding Webex devices to the cloud and providing cloud features to on-premises registered devices in your Control Hub-managed organization. The software provides a link from premises to cloud or from cloud to premises, depending on your device requirements and the features that you want to use. You get the software from Control Hub and install it on a Windows or Mac device or virtual machine in your network that can access your premises environment and the devices themselves.

After you sign in, the splash screen on the Webex Device Connector gives you the following device management options:

  • I want to register multiple devices to the cloud—Use a simple CSV file to bulk register Webex devices to the cloud in one step. See Cloud Onboarding for Devices for more information.

  • I want cloud features for my on-premises registered device—With Webex Edge for devices, get access to Webex cloud capabilities, while still keeping your calling and media on-premises. See Webex Edge for Devices for more information.

  • I want to add on-premises calling to my cloud registered devices—This service provides Unified CM on-premises calling capabilities to Webex cloud-registered devices. The Webex Device Connector also provides the following general features:

  • Upgrades notices within software interface—When a new version of the software is available, you are notified within the interface and can manually upgrade right away. Always stay on the latest version.

  • Proxy support—You can connect to a basic auth proxy or TLS intercepting proxy directly by entering the required information in the Webex Device Connector.

  • FedRAMP (Webex for Government) support—From the settings menu, you can configure the Device Connector to point to the FedRAMP Webex cloud instead of the standard Webex cloud.

  • Report an issue—Use the software to submit feedback and automatically upload logs to the cloud.

  • The Webex Device Connector is a lightweight piece of software that you can install on devices that run these supported operating systems:

    • Microsoft Windows 10

    • MacOS High Sierra (10.13) or later

  • You must install the software and perform upgrades using a local account with administrative privileges.

  • You sign into the software by using your Webex full administrator or device administrator credentials that you use to manage your organization in Control Hub.

  • If you want to use the tool to bulk onboard devices to the cloud, you must run the tool on a machine that can reach the device directly over HTTP.

  • For Hybrid Calling, the system where the software is installed requires network access to the Unified CM that contains configuration that you want to synchronize to Webex cloud-registered devices in Workspaces.

  • Get the details of your HTTP basic or TLS-intercepting proxy (address, port) if your organization uses one to access the internet. You'll also need a username and password for the proxy if it requires basic authentication. Webex Device Connector cannot use other methods to authenticate with the proxy.

    • The Webex Device Connector trusts certificates in the .webexdeviceconnector/certs folder for both calls made to the cloud and to a Unified CM environment.

    • For a TLS intercepting proxy, you need to put the CA certificate for that proxy in the certificates folder.

    • We tested and verified Squid 3.1.19 on Ubuntu 12.04.5.


From the customer view in https://admin.webex.com, go to Management > Devices, and then click Resources.


Scroll to Tools, click Download, and then choose Download for Mac or Download for Windows, depending on your platform.


Open the installer file and then choose one, depending on your platform:

  • For Windows:
    1. Click Next, check the box to accept the terms in the License Agreement, and then click Next.

    2. Optionally, change the destination folder or leave the default, and then click Next.

    3. Click Install, and then the setup wizard installs the software.

  • For Mac:
    1. Read the introduction and then click Continue.

    2. Click Continue and then click Agree to accept the software license.

    3. Choose the disk where you want the software to be installed, and then click Continue.

    4. Optionally, click Change Install Location if you want to install the software somewhere else; otherwise, click Install.

    5. After the screen appears that says the software installed successfully, click Close.

What to do next

  • You're ready to sign into the connector with your full or device admin credentials and use the software to onboard and manage your devices.

  • You can go to settings and choose Connect to FedRAMP to connect to the FedRAMP cloud instead of the Webex cloud.

  • You're notified in the software whenever an upgrade is available. We recommend that you click Update to remain on the latest version of the software for bug fixes and security enhancements:

Problem—Starting and running the Device Connector works fine with Windows Remote Desktop, but if you leave the tool running, close the remote desktop connection and log back in later, the Device Connector UI changes to a blank screen and becomes unresponsive.

Solution—Restart the Device Connector.

Problem—YubiKey is not supported when signing in with Google SSO.

Solution—Sign in without YubiKey.
