You can share a single phone number with one or more of your coworkers. For example, as an administrative assistant, you might be responsible for screening calls for the person that you support.

When you share a phone number, you can use that phone line just like you would do with any other line.

When working with your shared line, you should be aware of these special characteristics about shared lines:

  • If your coworker is making a call, the shared line on your phone shows the Remote active icon together with the Shared - Calling status. Once the shared call is answered, the status changes to Shared - Active.

  • If your coworker answers a call or is in a conference call, the shared line on your phone shows the Remote active icon together with the Shared - Active status. You can add yourself to the ongoing call through the shared line.

  • If your coworker puts a call on hold, the shared line on your phone shows the Remote on hold icon together with the Shared - On hold status. You can resume the held call through the shared line.

  • If your coworker puts a call on private hold, you can see the Private hold icon together with the Shared - Private status on the shared line. You can't resume the call from the shared line.

  • If you turn on DND on the phone, and meanwhile the shared line receives an incoming call, you can see the Remote incoming icon Incoming call icon for Espresso together with the Shared - Alerting status on the shared line.

Before you begin

Your administrator has configured at least one shared line on your phone.

On a shared line, you can do the following actions (including but not limited):

You can use the More button (...) to locate the softkey, if the relevant feature is configured on the phone.
  • Select Answer to answer the incoming call.
  • Select Decline to reject the incoming call.
  • Select Ignore to silence the incoming call alert.
  • Select Barge to add yourself to a call or conference.
  • Select Hold to put an active call on hold.
  • Select PrivHold to put an active call on private hold.
  • Select Resume to resume a held call.
  • Select New call to make a new call to another person.
  • Select Transfer to transfer the call to another person.
  • Select Conf or Conference to create a conference call.
  • Select Meet me to host or join a scheduled conference call.
  • Select Record to start recording of the call.

Add yourself to a call on a shared line

You or your coworker can join an ongoing call on the shared line to create a three-way conversation.

Before you begin

  • Your administrator has configured the Barge feature on the phone.
  • A shared line on your phone shows the Shared - Active status.
1

On the phone home screen, select the shared line with the status Shared - Active.

  • On the phone with single line, the shared-call screen displays directly.
  • On the phone with multiple lines, the calls list displays instead to show all current calls on the phone. You need to select the shared call from the calls list.
2

Select Barge to add yourself to the call.

When connected, you will be part of a conference since the barged call is converted to a conference call automatically. You can see the contact information on the shared-call screen.
