Learn how to answer calls on your Cisco Wireless Phone 9821. This Help article is for Cisco Wireless Phone 9821 registered to Webex Calling.
Your Cisco Wireless Phone 9821 functions like a standard phone. You can make outgoing calls and answer incoming calls using the phone.
Spam indication for incoming calls
Secure Telephone Identity Revisited (STIR) and Signature-based Handling of Asserted Information Using toKENs (SHAKEN) is a framework of interconnected standards. This ensures that calls traveling through interconnected phone networks have their caller ID signed as legitimate by originating service provider and validated by the receiving service provider before reaching the consumers.
When STIR/SHAKEN support is implemented on the server, the phone can display an icon next to the caller number that reflects the caller's STIR/SHAKEN verification result. There are three types of icons corresponding to the verification status:
- Verified caller—The phone displays an icon
indicating that the caller ID passed validation. - Possible spam—The phone displays an icon
indicating that the caller ID cannot be fully
verified. - Potential fraud—The phone displays an icon
indicating that the caller ID failed validation.
These icons help you reduce wasted time answering robocalls and mitigate security risks from spoofed or tampered caller IDs by providing clear visual cues about the call's authenticity.

Decline a call
When prompted with an incoming call, you can decline it by sending a ringing call to your voicemail system (if configured). If your administrator doesn't set up your voicemail system, the call is rejected and the caller hears a busy tone.
If you don't see the Decline softkey, then your administrator has disabled the ability to decline a call.

Block anonymous calls using feature code
When you receive incoming anonymous calls, you can either press the Decline button to reject the call or block these calls by activating the anonymous call block feature using the appropriate feature code. This feature prevents calls without caller ID from ringing on your phone, helping to reduce unwanted anonymous calls. If you choose to decline the call, it will be sent to voicemail if configured; otherwise, the caller hears a busy tone. Blocking anonymous calls via feature code provides a persistent block until deactivated, while pressing Decline handles individual calls as they arrive.
