Learn how to hold and resume calls on your Cisco Wireless Phone 9821. This Help article is for Cisco Wireless Phone 9821 registered to Cisco Unified Communications Manager (Unified CM).
Put a call on hold
You can put an active call on hold and then resume it when you're ready. When you are on a call and receive an incoming call, answering the call automatically puts the active call on hold. In this situation, you can swap between the active and held calls.
| 1 |
Access the Phone |
| 2 |
Select an active call. |
| 3 |
Press Hold to put this active call on hold. If another person uses the call barge feature to join the active call, this person will be disconnected automatically when you hold the call. This behavior doesn't apply to the barged conference call. If your administrator configures the Music on Hold feature on the phone, the held call plays music deployed in the calling system. If your administrator enables the Hold Reversion feature, the phone generates an alert (such as a beep or ring) to prompt you to resume a held call when the hold time exceeds the configured limit. |
What to do next
To resume a held call, press Resume.
Answer a call left on hold for too long
You can be notified when a call is left on hold. Similar to an incoming call notification, the hold reminder is a single ring repeating at intervals.

Press Answer to resume the held call. |
Swap between active and held calls
When you are on a call, you can access a call that is on hold. Once swapped, the phone places the original call on hold.

Call park
You can use your phone to park (temporarily store) an active call. Later, you can pick up the parked call from your phone or retrieve it from another phone, such as a phone at a coworker’s desk or in a conference room.
A parked call is monitored by your call control system so you won't forget about it. If the call remains parked for too long (typically 1 minute), you will receive an incoming call periodically to remind you to pick up the parked call. Then you can answer or ignore the call on your phone. If you don't answer the incoming call within a certain length of time (typically 5 minutes), it's routed to voicemail or another destination, as set by your administrator.
